Preparing for Your Mold Remediation

Mold remediation

If you have mold in your home, it is time to call Environmental Consulting and Contracting Group for a mold remediation.

Now that we have talked about why you should have the mold removed from your house, it is now time to talk about how you should be preparing for your mold remediation service. Just like any other service you have done in your home, there is some prepping you should be doing before the team arrives at your home. Let’s take a look at your new to-do list.

Remove Pets

While most mold remediation specialists use a containment system, it may be a good idea to remove your pets from the home. Ask friends or family to take your pet overnight or consider putting them in a kennel for the day. Pets are affected by mold just as humans are and as these particles are released into the air, they could become very sick with mold exposure.

Air Quality Sampling

Ask your remediation specialist about an air quality sample from your home. This test will tell you what kind of mold is growing in your home. It will also tell you where the mold problem is and if there are any more spores growing around your home.

Hands Off the Mold

It is important not to remove any of the items in your home that could be covered in mold spores. Leave everything in the room with the mold alone until the mold remediation specialist has cleared it. New spores may have started to land on these surfaces and moving them could contaminate the other areas of your home. But there is one exception: clothing.

Clothing

Any clothing that is in the contaminated area can be removed and quickly transferred to the washing machine. Wash the clothes in hot water using regular detergent. Then place the clothes in a sealed bag to help prevent further contamination.

Get Out of the House

While you do not have to leave the home, it may be good to make plans for you and your family. Although this plan is not for everyone, there are several factors that should go into this decision. What kind of mold is growing in your home? What areas of the home will be off-limits while the remediation is taking place? What are the potential health risks you could experience from staying? By answering these questions, you will know what is the right choice for you and your family.

Don’t let mold take over your life, call Environmental Consulting and Contracting Group today for a mold remediation service!
